Truth is Fallen

“Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter.” Isaiah 59:14.

Ten minutes into reading the news, scrolling through social media, or watching whatever is trending in popular culture, and it becomes hard not to feel grieved by the lies that are so deeply woven into the fabric of American society.

And these are not obvious lies. These are lies that have been designed, tailored, and manufactured as virtuous or true.

Lies dressed up as women’s rights, lies costumed as freedom and liberation,
Lies crafted as freedom of expression,
Then batch-sold to us as protection and safety, and in the “best interest” of our neighbor.

And we buy them and wear them so proudly and ignorantly, deceived by the aesthetics and allure of it all.

But the question is… How did we get here?

We are here because we do not know the word of God. And because we do not know the word of God, we do not know truth. Therefore, we cannot recognize and discern falsehoods.

There is a deliberate attack on truth in American society. If you look around at all forms of media, you will see ideologies being propagated that are in direct opposition to what the Word of God says. This is not accidental or coincidental. American news media is owned and controlled by a select few (90% controlled by just six companies), which means the messaging put out to the public is neither objective nor unbiased. In response, there has been a proliferation of independent news sources since the expansion of the internet and various social media platforms, but even these are reported in a largely subjective and opinionated manner, which only works to influence us rather than allowing us to think for ourselves.

The family is being redefined.
Church is being redefined.
Gender is being redefined.
Marriage is being redefined.

We’ve labeled God’s laws as outdated and old school, and now truth is left up to the individual to define for themselves.

This will inevitably create chaos, and eventually, our society will erode from the inside. That is the plan of the enemy, and by our silence, we strengthen his hands.

We don’t speak out because we are afraid to offend. We are afraid to be ostracized or canceled. We are afraid of losing money, followers, or influence. And with our silence, we are complicit in the spreading of falsehoods and the destruction of our society, even if we think we are playing it safe by “minding our business.”

Isaiah said, “Truth is fallen in the streets and equity cannot enter…”

In response, God was grieved, and He looked around to see if there was any intercessor. If there was anyone who would “Cry aloud and spare not.” But He found no one, so He came Himself and brought judgment upon Israel.

I fear this is the direction we are headed in our country. I fear that if more of us don’t speak up or speak out, and join forces with the Holy Spirit to come up with a plan of action, then we will have the harvest we deserve.

Truth is now considered hate speech. But it is a complicit and apathetic generation and a lukewarm church that allow this to become our reality. The ones spreading lies are louder, more persistent, and more action-oriented than us. And the time is coming (and now is) when right will be wrong, wrong will be right, and the truth-tellers will be the rejected and persecuted minority.

“So truth fails, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.” —Isaiah 59:14.

But we have a bigger judgment to fear than being canceled or persecuted. For the Lord says,
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” —Isaiah 5:20.

We will stand before God and give account. We will account for our silence. We will give account for not raising our children up in the Word. We will account for not making disciples of all men. Our lack of discipling and mentoring has far-reaching destructive consequences. We will give account for every like, click, and view that allowed a lie to multiply and strengthen. We will give account for entertaining ourselves with lies and evil. We will give account for sitting in churches where the truth is not being preached and sanctioning them with our “Amens.”

We should fear God more than we fear being canceled.

“Truth is fallen in the streets, and equity (righteousness) cannot enter.” But when God looks and wonders if there is an intercessor, let Him look and find you.
